Un peu de gouache....A bit of gouache

Une expérience, un sketch commencé à l’aquarelle, qui allait moins que plus bien, tenté de corrigé avec de l’acrylique…puis je l’avais laissé de côté.  Première étape de la reprise…une bataille avec le papier ‘récalcitrant’ qui ne tient que plus non pas par un cheveu, mais un morceau de ruban gommé pour aquarelle…après une dure bataille…il est presque bien attaché au support.  Maintenant que faire de cet essai? le laisser là, ou essayer d’autre chose….par hasard, non pas vraiment par hasard, j’ai acheté lors de mon dernier pérégrinage au magasin d’art, des tubes de gouache, leur opacité et leur brillance, fera peut-être de cet essai une peinture digne de ce nom….:)

Sometimes ‘experimentation’ turn out not the way we expected…started as a quick sketch in watercolor, and it was less or more good than I wanted it to be, try to get it right adding acrylic, but still did not like the effect….. So , this morning I was asking myself what to do with this one…first had to paste back the paper on the board, it was hanging by next to nothing, it turned out to be a battle, but at least it is in position; now what can I do to get it right, or try at least… Last time I did venture out in an art supplies store, always scary, always cost me much much more than expected…I remember I bought a few tubes of gouache…opaque and brillant, they say on the paper…so why not giving them a try, and maybe I will end up with something that look more like a painting and less an expirement that went havroc….:)

Une de mes muses favorites...One of my favorite muses...

Élizabeth de son prénom….Hurley, les habitués de ma page se doutaient que je parlais d’elle…..je pourrais peindre cette femme pendant des années encore…..dans un de ses films, diaboliquement vôtre, elle jouait le diable…hum me retrouverais probablement condamné à la peindre pour l’éternité….faudra que je lise bien attentivement les petites clauses du contrat j’imagine…..pour le moment dans ce tableau, j’essaie de m’abstenir de m’engager trop dans les détails, et de saisir plus l’essence de la pose, tout en jouant avec les couleurs, les textures et la lumière, enfin tout ce qui fait un tableau quoi….

Elizabeth is her first name, if you a frequent visitor of my page, site, etc….you probably by now have guessed her last name, if not then it is Hurley…I could probably paint her for years and years, if you watched a remake of a movie she played, she was the devil….I would be comdemned to paint her for eternity….I would have to read carefully the little printed letters on the contract I suppose….well let’s come back to this painting, for the time being I’m trying to resist my habit of gettting into too much details, and working more loosely, looking more to movement, textures, lights and playing with colors, more or less what is the basis of a painting I guess…

Kristen et l'huile...Oil and Kristen...

Oui, probablement comme vous aussi, je me suis dit, bon temps de passer à une autre toile, et aussi de l’acrylique à l’huile, j’ai toujours ce long, plutôt interminable débat intérieur, enfin plus ou moins puisque j’en fait mention régulièrement dans ce blog….est-ce que j’aime mieux l’huile ou l’acrylique, à moins que ce ne soit le pastel….:), je commence à croire que je ne trouve pas la réponse, tout simplement parce qu’elle n’existe pas la réponse, ou toutes les réponses sont bonnes…..ici on a quatre saisons, et je les aime toutes, par contre je suis toujours content lorsqu’une fait place à l’autre, le changement serait peut-être la réponse, le besoin de passer à autre chose, un autre rythme….

Yes, time to move to another, probably you were telling yourself that too….:), so another painting, this time it is an oil one, time to move also from a medium to another, I still have this ongoing interior debate, well not so interior, I’ve often written about my likes and dislikes of mediums, especially acrylic I must say…maybe after all there is no answer, just the need to change, to work with something different….so I guess I should just say I like all the mediums I use, oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor occasionnaly….probably like I do with the seasons, I like all of them, but I always happy when we move from one to another, probably the need to feel some change, going to another rythm….

Voici la plus récente, j’aimais plus ou moins ses cheveux, je trouvais cette partie du tableau confuse, comme moi souvent…:), pense avoir réussi à la rendre plus intéressante, j’aime travaillé foncé sur foncé, avec des éclats de lumière, et des tons diffus, un clair obscur, pas sûr que ce terme décrit bien ce que je veux dire ou faire, mais je crois que vous devinez ce que je veux dire….:)

Here’s the most recent version, did not like the area surrounding her hair, I thought it was difficult to see, textures all the same, so I try something like a ‘clair obscur’ dark on dark, with sparkling of light defining both, and I did simplify the texture around her hair, I think the effect is better now…I’m not sure that clair obscur is the right term, but I think you do get the general idea of what I’m trying to say or do….:)

Quant à l’huile vs l’acrylique…aujourd’hui je dirais que j’aime mieux l’huile….
And between oil and acrylic, today I would say that oil is my favorite….

pas sûr ce que je ferai du visage qui était dans l’arrière-plan, pour le moment il disparaît….il reviendra peut-être ou ce sera quelque chose d’autre….un peu comme dans la photo ci-bas, remodelé avec photoshop et daz studio, un modèle 3d on peut changer la pose et l’angle de vue….je m’amuse comme un petit fou…

Not sure what will happen to the upper right part of the background, her face has almost disapeared, maybe it will be back or something else will be there, like in this modified picture of her, remodelled….in photoshop and daz studio, in 3d modeling, model can be rotated, and view from a different angle….I’m having fun…

J’aime ses bottes…:), alors pourquoi ne pas les peindre encore….. Love her boots…:), so why not painting them again….:)

Lorsque j’ai fait mes derniers vidéos, j’ai l’impression que les photos des étapes sont trop distancés, donc pour tenter de faire une transition plus douce, j’ai décidé de prendre les photos à un intervalle plus petit, évidemment je n’afficherai pas toutes ces photos dans l’article, mais elle sont dans le diaporama qui suit…

It is my impression, that when I did the latest making of video, I did not have enough photos to render a smooth transition, to try to remedy to this, I intent to take more pictures during the painting session, I won’t show them in the post, but they will be presented in the slideshow that follow

De l'ordi au chevalet / From the computer to the easel

Bon assez ‘pitonné’ sur l’ordi et manipulé des photos, animé des modèles virtuels, après tout, le but est de peindre…ce que j’ai fait passablement dans les deux derniers jours, en essayant de transformer ce tableau d’un nu à quelque chose d’autre…

Well enough of working on the computer, playing in photoshop and animation and posing software, and dolls….:) ok virtual models is a better term…:), after all the point of all of this, and even writing these posts, is painting, or drawing. So I did paint quite a bit in the last two days, trying to change this painting of a nude model

And why not showing the picture of the first sketch and then the reworked painting with the 3d model that is now the reference picture I’m using to continue this painting

Jouer avec des poupées? Playing with dolls?

Hum, j’imagine que vous devez vous demander, bon où est-ce qu’il s’en va lui là, avec ce titre là…..:), j’ai un tableau qui me pose des problèmes….un autre…:), un nue que j’ai commencé voilà quelques mois
Well, maybe you asking yourself, where is he going now with this title…:), there a painting, another one, that is giving me some trouble, started from a nude sketche, and frankly, I wasn’t too happy with it…

Par la suite, j’ai voulu lui ajouter des gants et des bottes, pour donner plus de couleurs, de punch…sans trop de succès non plus….
Then after I did add gloves, and boots, to add color, and punch, did not worked out the way I hope….

Alors je me suis dit pourquoi ne pas faire appel à quelques logiciels, que j’utilise plus pour m’amuser que professionnellement, comme photoshop, Daz Studio; je connais un peu ces logiciels mais j’ai complètement abandonné l’idée que je pouvais faire quelque chose de professionnel avec eux, par contre je me suis dit que je pouvais m’en servir dans ce cas-ci…et éventuellement pour de futurs projets de peinture…

So I told myself why not using some software, that I use mainly as a hobby, a while ago I thought I could do something ‘professionnal’ with those, but I dont know enough about them, but maybe I could use them as sketching tools, to work on some painting projects, or in this case deciding what to do with this one….

Une image de synthèse tirée d’une ‘tentative’ d’animation 3d faite avec Daz Studio, on achète des modèles 3d que l’on fait poser, ou animer, faut aussi les habiller…oui voilà, donc j’ai un peu l’impression de jouer avec des poupées, cela me ramène presqu’au temps de l’adolescence où j’avais des GI Joe, des cowboys et des Indiens, oops amérindiens, des jouets articulés…cette fois ci j’ai utilisé un de ces modèles, en lui donnant une pose similaire mais pas tout-à-fait, il aurait fallu que je désactive certaines variables pour qu’elle puisse prendre la pose que j’ai peinte…soit le modèle est ‘mal designé’ ou la pose mal rendue…:)

A synthétic image, taken from trying to make an animation from Daz Studio, this software use 3d models, that you can pose, and animate, and of course they are selling clothes and props, to go with it…that’s the catch, so you buy clothes for your models, hence the allusion playing with dolls…:), kind of taking me back to my much younger years, when I was playing with GI Joes, articulate indians, or amerindiens and cowboys, and so on….don’t know if as kids you were wathcing programs withs those dolls, were you could see the ropes…but this time I used it or her for this painting, gave her a similar posse, could not get the exact pose without overiding setttings…maybe the rigging of this model is not good, or my drawing of the pose wasn’t correct….:)

La photo de ce ‘nouveau’ modèle, bien sûr elle porte des bottes…:) / the picture of this ‘new’ model….of course she’s wearing boots…:)

Et c’est là qu’intervient mon autre outil favori, photoshop, donc j’ai superposé la photo du modèle à une photo de la dernière photo de cette toile, effacé le fond et voilà avec un peu de manipulation, comme copier certaines textures, ou partie de son corps ailleurs dans le tableau, à l’occasion j’aime bien réutiliser des parties du modèle comme rappel de textures, ou autres…voici donc la nouvelle photo qui servira à la suite de ce tableau, qui viendra dans le prochain article….

And there where my other favorite software tool is coming into action, photoshop, I did a superposition of this new model, taking out the background and pasting it onto the lastest version of this painting….and a few more manipulations to add parts of the model , or other textures, playing too with lighting or darkening parts of the picture to get this new photo that will be the base for this modifierd painting, which will be in the next post….
