Les vacances arrivent...sont là...

Ce qui veut dire, évidemment que je travaille plus d’heures au bourreau…heu bureau, pour arriver en temps…donc oui vous devinez déjà que je n’ai rien de nouveau ou modifié, à présenter…
Holidays are close, so of course, I’m working extra hours to get most of what I have to do before leaving….so of course, you already guessed it, I don’t have anything new or changed to show….

But I do have a lot of ‘old’ things, old to me, but new to most of you…so here’s a painting, finished in 2007, I will make her page in the next few days….in tbe meantime, the picture
Mais, j’ai beaucoup de vieux tableaux, vieux pour moi, et certains qui me connaissent, mais nouveaux pour plusieurs d’entre vous, donc voici un de ces ‘vieux’ tableaux, celui date de 2007, dans les prochains jours, je ferai sa page…en attendant, la photo…

Un des avantages du pastel...

Facile à s’installer, par rapport à l’huile ou l’acrylique, où il faut préparer une palette, et après le nettoyage, alors que mes batonnets de pastel, sont là, prêts à laisser leur traces de couleurs…ce qui est bien un soir de semaine, où le temps se fait toujours aussi limité….donc ce soir un pastel, celui d’Alicia Silverstone…voilà bien des années…

Easy to get started, just have to kick myself you know where, the pastels are there, ready to use and leave theirs beautiful colors and textures….that’s a good thing, especially on a week night, where time, again that time thing…is limited…

Kristen...un peu plus..a bit more...

Ah lundi, début de la semaine…de travail, donc le temps pour peindre et blogger se fait plus limité….tout-de-même travaillé un peu, très peu la toile d’hier, je me suis demandé si cela valait la peine de la montrer, laissez moi savoir si cela valait la peine…:), oui réellement…, donc oui…pas beaucoup de changements mais un peu…d’ailleurs je dois réfléchir un peu plus à la gestion de mes sites, trop de temps, rassurer vous…celui ci est mon principal, avec mon site jmr-art, qui lui servira ‘d’entrepôt’ d’images et autres….éventuellement plus de détails…en attendant Kristen…

Monday, new week, work week, so painting is kind of pushed aside….don’t have the choice…but did a bit of work on the last oil painting, not much, I even asked myself if it was worthed to show it…I decided yes…let me know if I’m wrong…:) really…Also changes are to be made to the way I’m maintening my sites, don’t worry this one is one of the main, with my site jmr-art, which is more like the library of all my works…more in the next few weeks on this,,,now let look to Kristen, the latest….a bit changed…:)

Acrylique et pastel....

Comme l’envie de ‘corriger’ le tableau d’hier était bien forte, en fait quelques corrections mineures, je trouvais la tête du modèle un peu grosse, elle est encore un peu, semble que l’arrière de la tête était pas mal fidèle à la photo, mais moins le visage que j’ai rendu plus incliné….mais au lieu de tout refaire, j’ai plutôt travaillé l’arrière-plan afin de ‘réduire’ un peu sa tête…et aussi quelques retouches ici et là, les deux photos y sont…pour fins de comparaison…

I was very tempted to ‘correct’ last night painting, mainly her head, a little too big, I guess the back was true to the photograph, can’t say the same for her face which is more inclined…but instead of reworking the whole head, I reworked the hair and background, did not want to lose was is already pretty good, to me at least…:)

Also did many minor retouchs here and there, the two photos are there, no major changes…

Et comme l’envie était encore bien présente de travailler ce tableau et que je craignais de me laisser emporter…un peu trop loin..me suis dit que je me calmerais les nerfs avec la suivante…un pastel qui lui aussi est bien près d’être terminé, encore là, petites retouches un peu partout, et un peu plus de changements sur celle-ci…encore là, les deux photos…me sens généreux…:), ou une peu comme dans ces publicités pour perdre du poids, quoique ici j’espère que mon pastel aura gagné et non pas perdu quelque chose…:)

And as I was getting more bold into the reworking of this painting, I decided to move to the next one, a pastel, close to the end line, so to speak, there too, small touches here and there, but a bit more changes, I feel ‘safer’ with pastel, more easy to correct things that went too far, but still have to have a bit of ‘retenu’, holding it back a little bit….there’s the two photos, before and after, as in those publicities for loosing weight, hope this time it gained something…:)

Pas de titre encore..No title yet...

Bien travaillé, du moins je le pense à ce moment-ci…sur la dernière toile, comme je le mentionnais, l’acrylique est encore pas mal un mystère pour moi, mais pour celle-ci, j’aime l’évolution que cette toile a pris, j’espère que vous partagerez ce que j’écris ce soir, évidemment je vois des erreurs de dessin…mais cette fois ci, du moins pour le moment, je me suis abstenu de trop ‘redessiner’ et miser un peu plus sur la spontanéité du geste, un peu moins de retenue, un style un peu différent de mes huiles, ce que j’aimerais bien développer pour l’acrylique, il me restera à résister à l’envie qui ne manquera pas, de ‘corriger’ ces erreurs…on verra…par contre je n’ai toujours pas trouvé un titre…pas si grave….:)

worked quite a bit on the last one, like I did mentionned, acrylic is kind of a surprise box for me, sometimes it is going well, others it goes from bad to very bad, I’m quite please with this one..hope I will still think so in a few hours….of course there is a few drawing errors, but this time I’m trying to ‘live with them’, tonight they don’t seem to be to bad, and I do prefer to keep the freshness or spontaneity of what is there now…I probably be tempted to ‘correct’ the painting, hope I will resist to that, most of the time, the drawing do get better, but I’m losing usually something in term of the freeness…not sure it is a word…well I think you get the meaning of what I’m trying to write…:), but I do have a huge problem with this painting, a few titles came to my mind, but I do not know which one yet, they all seem not good..so I guess it is Untitled so far…

Blues du peintre...

Voilà quelques jours/A few days ago

Revenu du travail, ce soir, avec la ferme intention de commencer une nouvelle toile, aussi de travailler encore un peu le tableau de Sophie, mais je devais faire la vaisselle et autres tâches ingrates…
Back from work, tonight, decided to start a new painting, and probably do some touch ups on Sophie’s painting…but before a few things, household things were due…like dishes and so on…



Voilà fait...That's done...


Mais encore fallait-il préparer la toile, la palette, appliquer du gesso….le temps passe
But still had to prepare the canvas, the palette and apply gesso on the canvas…time is going on…






Prêt, non encore un peu de gesso, encore le temps qui passe..Ready, but need a bit more of gess…times still goes on…

Aussi quelques retouches sur le tableau de Sophie, en attendant que cela sèche….

Sophie et après/After Sophie

C’est plus fort que moi…ce matin me suis dit, bon soit je laisse Sophie de côté ou je la signe…toujours en train de retoucher….pense qu’elle est encore mieux, voici la photo où j’en étais hier soir, enfin ce matin très tôt….
Can’t do a thing about it….this morning, I told myself give it a rest (Sophie’s painting) or sign it….but I went adding a bit more, and I think it is coming better yet…here’s the picture taken before calling it a night yesterday, or shall I say early this morning…




Comme je vais probablement la retravailler encore ce soir, pas sûr que j’afficherai la dernière version, mais à tout le moins, comme j’en ai ‘officiellement’ retiré une de la liste ‘en cours’ et bien voici la photo de la prochaine toile…pour le moment, je crois que ce sera une acrylique…j’ai encore des choses à me prouver et à apprendre de ce médium, et comme alterner de médium est devenu mon nouveau ‘mantra’ si je peux dire….
I am pretty, Sophie also is pretty…, sure I will work a bit more on her painting tonight, so I don’t think I will have time to post the latest version tonight, but at least I could show the model of the next painting, since Noëlle is ‘retired’ from the ‘in progress’ file…:), another acrylic painting, I still have thing to prove myself and learn with this medium, and since changing medium is sort of a new ‘mantra’ for me….:) I will go for it…I can always finish it in oils if I don’t like the way it goes….:))

Pas travaillé beaucoup la peinture ces derniers jours, travail et embuscade de bières...des amis et/ou collègues de travail...donc pas peint, sauf aujourd"hui...encore le tableau de Sophie...oui vous pouvez vous permettre de parler d'obsession....:), comme je vais encore le travailler ce soir, faudra attendre à demain matin pour voir où elle en est rendu....en attendant un petit vidéo making of du tableau de Noëlle Roques...

Did not worked much on painting last few days, either worked (job) or felt into a beer trap...wiht either friends or work collegues or both...:), but at least today did work on this painting of Sophie, yes you can say that it is coming close to being obsessed...:), I will probably work a bit more on this painting tonight, so in the meantime, as promised a few days ago, a video, making of style, Noëlle Roques.

Jour de ménage...clean-up day...

Sur mon site voilà quelques jours.....presque rattrapé le retard...
On my site few days ago....almost catch up the backlog...

Enfin presque, encore une fois, le proprio de l'appart a organisé une visite demain, je l'ai su hier, comme l'état de la place est toujours un peu sans dessus dessous....j'ai donc changé mon vendredi de congé pour un mercredi, pas de fin-de-semaine de trois jours, mais je peux me dire que ce sont deux semaines courtes, 2 jours, de travail....question d'interprétation....comme par exemple décider quand un tableau est terminé, le cas de Sophie est toujours en débat, le jury, composé de moi et de mes multiples personnalités...enfin pour résumer quelques uns disent oui elle est finie on passe à quelque chose d'autres, les autres, les perfectionnistes, veulent continuer....:)

Or almost, again my landlord, not of me of course, but of my appartment, has decided yesterday that tomorrow there would be a visit by some people, don't quite know why, apparently to evalue the possibility of getting funding for renovations or something like that, anyway that is not the important part, but my place is still upside down, it is kind of a permanent state, so I had to switch my day off, friday, for today, and try to clean up a bit the place, at the same time I could also try to decide if some painting are done, Sophie's is still in debate, the jury, me and my others me....are divided...the ones that want to move quickly, do more new things, say that it is finish, the other side, the perfectionnist, for whom a painting is almost never finished do want to keep working on it for a few hours at least...

Et il y a un autre tableau, Noëlle qui a fait son tour de l'atelier et le verdict est...la signature reste....donc oui, fumée blanche comme lorsqu'un pape est nommé, elle est bel et bien terminée....:), donc place à une nouvelle, bientôt...mais hélas pas aujourd'hui...

And there is another painting, this one of Noëlle Roques, black and red...it did run around my atelier, and finally, yes it is finished, let the white smoke, likewise a new pope is elected, so yes one is finished, so I could start something new...soon...not today alas....

Sophie...un peu plus...a bit more

Beaucoup travaillé sur le tableau de Sophie Marceau, le visage, les cheveux, sa robe, enfin tout, et aussi bien sûr ses bottes, beaucoup travaillé, bien travaillé? je ne sais pas trop, hier je me disais oui, aujourd'hui je suis moins sûr, faut dire que hier j'avais pris un peu de bière et il y avait de la fumée dans l'atelier...:) mais je sais qu'elle est plus près de la fin, mais arrivé? sais pas encore....

Lot of work done on this painting of Sophie Marceau, hair, face, her dress, her body, the background and of course her boots...lot of work, good work? I did think so last night, not quite so sure today, maybe the beer and the smoke floating in the atelier change my mood and appreciation last night...:) of course it can always be better, is it finish? don't think so but I'm not sure, probably still missing a bit of many little things....so there will probably, most certainly be another version sometimes, tonight or tomorrow, don't know, in a few weeks...sure.

Portrait...encore

Un autre portrait...modèle parfois pensive, parfois souriante, et qui change au cours des sessions, un peu plus texturé cette fois ci, semble que c'est l'air d'aller des derniers jours, à suivre comme on dit

Another portrait, that model who sometimes is smiling, other time she seems wondering, or in a darker mood, tonight she's mainly just changing, a bit in the way of my last few paintings, more texture, colors, and movement, will see what's next...

gants, gloves, textures...

Un modèle...avec des gants, de la couleur, des textures, des plis...pense que j'ai déjà mentionné que j'aime peindre les top modèles, et aussi jouer avec les couleurs et les plis et textures des vêtements...exceptionnellement, pas de bottes....:)

A model with gloves, color, texture, folds...I think I've said before that I do like painting from fashion, playing with colors, clothes, folds and textures, but for a rare occasion....no boots....:)

Lonneke et photoshop

En retard sur mon site principal, donc voilà quelques jours....
Still behind schedule compared to my main site, but here's a post a few days late...

Toujours sur ce tableau de Lonneke, je l'avais avancé, puis évidemment il me semblait que quelque chose n'allait pas...pas trop sûr quoi, mais quelque chose....soit les proportions ou tout simplement la difficulté de placer les 'copies' du modèle et de les dessiner correctement, fait une première version, samedi...

Still on this painting of Lonneke, don't know what exactly, but to me something was wrong, maybe the proportions or simply the difficulty of painting different versions of her...so that was the painting saturday...




Donc j'ai décidé de recourir à mon bon ami...photoshop, en superposant les copies du modèle, sur la dernière photo de ce tableau, je me suis dit que si je me donnais un montage de ce que je veux peindre, je me 'perdrais' un peu moins....j'ai tendance parfois assez souvent à changer complètement de direction dans un même tableau...donc voici 'le plan'....probablement que la bonne vieille méthode aurait été de faire des esquisses et d'essayer de les reproduire...je suis devenu 'paresseux', de bien beaux outils que ces logiciels...:)

So I decided to go to my old good friend...photoshop, overlapping the models over a copy of the painting, so I could get an 'esquisse', of course in the 'old days' I would have made a few sketches, still like to sketch or draw from a model, but I cannot deny that these softwares are quite good tools for sketching or planning a painting...should have done that with this painting a long time ago...I do tend to 'wander' in many of my paintings...:)




Bon voici la dernière version, oui quelques pas en arrières, mais aussi quelques uns par en avant....:)

So here's the latest version, of course a lot of corrections, steps back but also a few forward...:)

Lonneke...retour à l'huile

Un peu d'huile, retour aux anciennes amours et Lonneke, plutôt trois fois qu'une, cette toile qui a subi tant de changements de direction, en subit une encore, sais pas si c'est d'avoir travaillé avec des médiums où je favorise plutôt un dessin relâché, moins portrait et plus expressif, ou tout  simplement la fatigue, le surplus de travail ces jours ci ou tout simplement la chaleur suffocante, humide, oui je sais je suis peu tolérant à la chaleur, moi des journées à 30 et humides, comme s'il faisait 35-40, ce n'est pas ce que je considère une température idéale...je sais que certains de mes 'abonnés' connaissent 'pire'...:)), en tout cas tout cela pour dire que cette toile, que je n'ai jamais trop su où elle allait, s'en va encore sur un chemin inconnu, qui me plait, me semble que j'ai le goût de travailler un peu plus librement, si je peux dire, que d'habitude, un écart temporaire ou un changement de 'style'? sais pas, trop tôt pour le dire...ah oui pense que vous avez deviné le sens de 'lousse'

Back to my dear oils....and this painting of Lonneke Engel, and her reflections, or more parts of her showing in the background, this painting went many directions, many changes, and maybe because I spent many days working in acrylics or mixed media, which tend to loosen up my way of painting, but tonight it did show in this painting, so a bit of change for this painting, one more...or maybe I tend to work more loosely these days because I do work more, it is much warmer than usual in Montréal, and to me plus 30 and humid is not a good mix...I know that for some of my reader, they must thing it is just a bit warm...and I'm a bit more tired....I also did training, lot of walking, much more, so I guess it is part of the feeling tired, as for working loosely, maybe it is just a short sidestep from my usual way of working, and maybe it is the first steps to a new 'style', I guess I will have to see before saying so....

Médiums à l'eau/waterbase medium

Je ne me décidais pas à laisser Cindy, finalement je l'ai mis de côté, mais continué une aquarelle, en fait technique mixte, encre et aquarelle et pouquoi pas un peu d'acrylique, et revenu à l'aquarelle ce soir...une que j'avais commencé début mai, voici la suite...

could not decide to leave Cindy alone, finally did, but kept working on a watercolor, more like mixed media, so why not adding leftover of acrylic paint, diluted, and tonight kept going with a bit of watercolor again, that work on paper was begun early may, so here's 'la suite'....

Les deux Cindys...Two Cindys

Ah toujours la question....qui revient inlassablement, comme mes absences, les Olympiques entres autres comme cause et quelques autres....:) donc depuis quelques jours je travaille la toile des deux Cindys....toujours à l'acrylique, j'ai résisté.....mais la tentation était, est encore forte de la finir à l'huile, comme aussi à me demander si je vais définir plus ou moins les visages, aussi comme je le mentionnais, je ne connais pas le contexte de la photo, mais sur les deux poses, la belle Cindy semble soit effrayé, en colère ou les deux, ou tout simplement dans une pose un peu, mais bien peu provocante...donc beaucoup de questions, non répondues encore, comme je le disais encore à l'acrylique, pour le moment j'ai décidé de privilégier le mouvement, et de laisser paraître plus les textures, de toutes manières, probablement dû à ma façon de travailler l'acrylique, j'ai souvent de la difficulté à obtenir des textures satiné ou soyeuses, enfin avec peu de textures que j'ai besoin pour un tableau plus 'portrait' que un qui se concentre plus sur les poses et plus 'libres en interprétation'...donc pour le moment on continue avec l'acrylique. Donc voici les photos, de ou des Cindy Crawford et des deux dernières versions, enfin celles des derniers jours,il y aura une autre version, j'ai déjà  mis quelques heures de plus sur cette toile, donc la prochaine version plus tard ce soir ou probablement plus demain ou mardi...

The same old dilemma....almost as frequent as my unexplained silences these last few weeks....:))), (yes I'm laughing lauder in english...:)), so the last few days while not blogging,  of course the Olympics are a reason, but only for the last two days....for the others days...all kind of reasons....but at least for the last 3 or 4 days  I was painting...and watching the games....at least that's a minimum to do...working on this acrylic painting, and still an acrylic....of Cindy Crawford, or I shall say the two Cindy's, both seems either scared, furious, or upset or maybe all of these answers...or simply a fashion shot a bit show off, so while I'd been asking myself if I should finish it with oils, and get a softer, more portrait like interpretation, or keep going with acrylics, but the problem with this one painting is that I have a lot of difficulties to obtain a smooth finish, and at the same time I do like that textured, where all strokes are apparent, but not to good for a portrait where I would like some softness, and also I'd been moving between showing more details in her faces...or going mainly for a feeling of the poses...more like portrait versus figure drawings like...the debate is still going on...so here the original photo, and the last two versions of this painting, there is another one on the way, it has changed, I will post it probably tomorrow or later this week...so for now it is still an acrylic painting and going for a more textured and 'figure like' rendering of the photo...will see in the end if it stays that way...
